Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity. Wi-Fi is a wireless data network that uses the IEEE 802.11 international standard (wireless Ethernet). In practice, Wi-Fi is increasingly synonymous for wireless home network or 'wireless Internet'.

Wireless networks not only saturate our homes and offices, but are now widely available in public areas.

FON is the largest Wi-Fi community in the world. FON members share their wireless Internet access at home and, in return, enjoy free Wi-Fi wherever they find another FON access point. FON currently has approximately 130.000 hotspots worldwide and 3.500 hotspots in The Netherlands.

About Wi-Fi

Wireless (Wi-Fi) internet connections – known as hot spots – are now available in train stations, hotels, roadside restaurants, airports, coffee shops, cafés, vacation parks, campgrounds, marinas, gas stations, school playgrounds and many other public areas.

Besides the many commercially operated hot spots, the number of locations that offer open Wi-Fi connections is growing dramatically. The number of sponsored Wi-Fi connections is also growing. There are also many other initiatives that promote the spread of free, open Wi-Fi, like FON.

Commodore Gravel™ products are equipped with a Wi-Fi receiver. Once the Gravel™ devices connect to a Wi-Fi network, they are linked to CommodoreWorld™ and give you direct access to the CommodoreWorld™ entertainment catalogue.
